WAC releases cross country polls

DENVER — The Western Athletic Conference released its pre-championship coaches' poll for men's and women's cross country Wednesday morning.
The Sam Houston men have been selected to finish sixth and the women ninth as voted on by the league's 13 head coaches. The Bearkat men received 84 points and the women 59.
The WAC Cross Country Championships will take place Saturday at California Baptist in Riverside. Both of the California Baptist teams are favored to win the event.
The California Baptist men received 12 first-place votes to sit atop the poll with 144 points followed by Utah Valley with one first-place vote and 131 points, Grand Canyon (122), Lamar (105), Abilene Christian (97), Sam Houston, Stephen F. Austin (71), UTRGV (63), Dixie State (57), New Mexico State (48), Tarleton (41), Seattle U (39) and Chicago State (12).
On the women's side, California Baptist received eight first-place votes for a total of 139 points while Abilene Christian received three first-place nods for 127 and Utah Valley with two for 125. New Mexico State is fourth (115) followed by Grand Canyon (99), SFA (76), Seattle (74), Dixie State (68), Sam Houston, UTRGV (51), Lamar (44), Tarleton (25) and Chicago State (12).
