Kats come up short at Lamar

BEAUMONT — A goal to start to second half proved to be the difference as the Sam Houston soccer team concluded a six-game road swing with a 2-1 loss to Lamar on Sunday evening.

Lamar (5-6-1 overall, 2-1-1 WAC) got on the board first in the 16th minute. Eva Karen soared a shot from near the top of the box over the outstretched arms of Bearkat goalkeeper Abby DeLozier, who finished with five saves, to make it 1-0.

Sam Houston (3-7, 1-2) answered shortly. Lexi Primacio crossed the ball to Caitlyn McDonald outside of the top of the box, and she drilled the equalizer past Cardinal keeper Nicole Panis to knot the match at 1.

Lamar broke the tie to start the second half. Kaisa Juvonen passed the ball in to Isela Ramirez who outran a defender to the front of the net and scored.

The Bearkats return home to host Chicago State at Prichett Field on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
