XC teams 18th at NCAA region championships

WACO — The Sam Houston men's and women's cross country teams closed out the season with a solid showing at the NCAA South Central Region Championships held at the Cottonwood Golf Course on Friday.

The men placed 18^th out of 37 teams at the regional. Andrew Bosquez led the way by placing 20^th with a time of 31:37.9 on the 10K course.

Austin Zirkel finished 70^th with a mark of 33:03 and Elijah McWilliams came in 112^th with a time of 34:15.5. Kylan Wallace was 117^th at 34:26.1, Christian Rivera was 132^nd at 35:03.5 and Mario Ruiz placed 146^th with a time of 36:12.6.

The women also placed 18^th out of 33 teams. Cryslan Tucker was the top finisher with a time of 22:35.3 to come in 64^th place on the 6K course.

Rebeca Gonzalez placed 79^th with a mark of 22:50, and Sandy Clarkin finished 121^st with a time of 23:41.7. Haley Thomas was 139^th at 24:14.5, and Ellie Galan was 161^st at 25:27.3.
