Bowlers post 4-1 record on opening day of Hawk Classic

Friday's continue to be good to the Bearkats. The Sam Houston bowlers posted a 4-1 record on the opening day of the Hawk Classic and sit in third place at the 15-team event.

The Bearkats posted a five-game average of 200.1 and they trail Vanderbilt by 93 pins with a total pinfall of 5,002. Fairleigh Dickinson sits in second place at 5,028.

The Kats won the first four matches of the day before falling to FDU to finish. In three tournaments this season, the Bearkats are now 14-1 on the opening day.

"Another solid day overall but we need to clean up the mistakes and get some rest," said head coach Brad Hagen. "Thursday was a long day and I think we were sluggish out of the gate. There was certainly some great scores in the middle of the day once the lanes developed but we need to open and close our block better."

The Kats topped 1,000 pins three times on the day, knocking off Wilmington University, Mount St. Mary's and Adelphia. They opened the day with a win over LIU.

The Kats will bowl five more matches on Saturday as they look to get into the championship bracket on Sunday.
