HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston Bearkats picked up their second win in a row with a 88-65 win over Hartford on Saturday afternoon at Johnson Coliseum.
Kaylee Jefferson and
Madelyn Batista each put up double-doubles for the Kats (3-2), pacing 5 players that finished in double figures scoring. Jefferson finished with 20 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 8 for 13 from the field with a season-high 11 rebounds, meanwhile Batista posted 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The Kats forced 37 turnovers, the second most turnovers in the
Ravon Justice era and the most since forcing 40 against Howard Payne in 2019-20. Sam Houston turned those 37 turnovers into 36 points, while also dominating in the paint, outscoring the Hawks (0-4) 52-24.
Faith Cook joined Jefferson and Batista with 17 points, while
Courtney Cleveland had 13,
Damaya Telemaque had 10.
The Kats took the lead to start and never gave it up, wining wire-to-wire.
Sam Houston will look next to a tilt with Arkansas in Fayetteville on November 27. The game vs the Razorbacks is set for 2pm and will be aired on SECNetwork+.
