Bowling takes top seed at Hawk Classic

On Day 2 of the Hawk Classic, the Bearkats picked up right where they left off. The Kats posted another 4-1 day and will enter Sunday's bracket play as the No. 1 seed with a chance to claim a tournament title.

Sam Houston entered the day 93 pins behind Vanderbilt and by the end of the day, the two teams had an identical total pinfall of 10,169. The Kats take the No. 1 seed on a tiw breaks and will face Vandy in Sunday's best-of-seven match.

"We did a great job knowing that once we got back on the lower end of the center that if we executed we could make a charge and bounce back," said head coach Brad Hagen. "The ladies did a great job staying poised and now for the fourth event in a row we have a chance to win the event."

Elise Chambers led all bowlers with a 225 average including a high game of 278. The Kats had two other bowlers in the top 10 with Hayley Connelly finishing the day 5^th with a 216 average. Her best game of the day was her last with a 239.

Bea Hernandez was 9^th overall with a 209 average. Her best game was a 258.

The Bearkats dropped their opening match of the day to Duquesne before winning the next four to close the day strong.

Joining Sam Houston and Vanderbilt in the championship portion of the bracket is Fairleigh Dickinson and North Carolina A&T. A win outs the Kats in the finals while a loss forces them into a semifinal match up against either FDU or NCA&T.
