HUNSTVILLE — Sam Houston was clicking on offense and defense in a 106-46 dismantling of Schreiner at Johnson Coliseum on Thursday night.
Demarkus Lampley led the Bearkats (3-5) with 21 points on seven 3-point baskets which is tied for the fifth most made in a game in school history.
Donte Powers scored 14 points, and
Kuba Karwowski and
Tristan Ikpe each finished with 12.
Kian Scroggins chipped in 10 points, and
Javion May and
Kevin Martina both scored eight.
Sam Houston dominated from start to finish, shooting 63 percent from the floor and going 16 for 28, or 57 percent, from behind the arc while holding the Mountaineers to 35 percent shooting.
The Bearkats came out on fire to start the game. Karwowski scored six quick points on three dunks, May threw down a dunk and hit a 3 and Lampley drained one from behind the arc as Sam Houston took a 15-0 lead before the Mountaineers finally got on the board.
The rout was on from there.
The Bearkats outscored Schreiner 47-16 the rest of the half, capped by a 3 at the buzzer by Lampley, to take a 62-18 lead into the break.
Javon Grant, Martina, Scroggins,
Damon Nicholas Jr., Ikpe, Powers all scored in the opening 20 minutes as well.
