Softball releases 2022 schedule

HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston softball team will open the season with a competitive slate of games, according to the 2022 schedule head coach Garrett Valis has announced.

The Kats open the season with the Bearkat Classic which will feature South Dakota, Wichita State, Dayton and Houston Baptist. Sam Houston plays South Dakota and Wichita State on Feb. 11, Dayton and HBU on Feb. 12 and Wichita State again on Feb. 13.

The Bearkats then host Texas A&M on Feb. 16 and New Mexico on Feb. 17. SHSUÂ will play Louisiana Tech and Tulsa to begin the Louisiana Tech Tournament on Feb. 19 and close with matchups against the Hurricane and Lady Techsters on Feb. 20.

Sam Houston returns home for a doubleheader against former Southland Conference foe Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Feb. 23.

The Bearkats will take part in the McNeese Tournament with a game against the Cowgirls on Feb. 24. Sam Houston will then play Manhatten and UNLV on Feb. 25 and UTA and UNLV on Feb. 26.

A matchup at Texas on March 2 will be the Bearkats' final nonconference game before WAC play gets underway with a three-game series at home against Lamar on March 4-5. Sam Houston will host a midweek doubleheader against Kennesaw State on March 9, then travel to Tarleton for a WAC series on March 11-12.

The Kats will play at Texas A&M on March 15 the head to Norman, Oklahoma to play in a tournament with games against San Diego and the Sooners on March 18 and Iowa and Indiana on March 19.

Next up will be a game at Houston on March 22 then a three-game series against Abilene Christian on March 25-26 in Huntsville. Sam Houston closes March with a midweek at UTA on the 30th.

The Bearkats will play a conference series at Stephen F. Austin on April 1-2. They host Texas State on April 7 and Tarleton on April 8-9.

Sam Houston plays at Houston Baptist on April 13, Baylor on April 15-16 and ACU on April 22-23. The Kats host SFA on April 29-30 before finishing the regular season at Lamar on May 6-7.

The WAC Championship Tournament will be held in Huntsville May 12-15.
