Monroe named Kyle Macy Award finalist

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston guard Bryce Monroe has been named as one of 30 finalists for the Kyle Macy National Freshman of the Year Award.

Monroe was recently named the Southland Conference Freshman of the Year following a breakout season in his first year at Sam Houston.

He is third on the team in scoring at 10.2 points per game as a valuable sixth man off the bench. He has 13 double-digit scoring games, including two 20-point outings.

He scored a career-high 26 points in a win over Southeastern Louisiana on Feb. 20. The San Francisco native also averages 2.26 assists per game.

The Kyle Macy Award is presented annually to the top freshman in Division I college basketball and is named for a guard who starred as a freshman for Purdue.

The recipient of the 2021 award will be announced on April 1, 2021.
