Fritsch places 7th at NCAA Indoor Championships

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Sam Houston senior Clayton Fritsch capped a stellar indoor track and field season with a strong showing in the pole vault at the NCAA Championships Saturday at the Randal Tyson Center.

Fritsch turned in a season-best height of 5.50 meters to place seventh and earn All-American honors. His previous best mark this season came at the Southland Conference Indoor Championships where he won gold with a vault of 5.45 meters.

KC Lightfoot of Baylor won the pole vault national championship with a height of 5.93 meters. BYU's Zach McWhorter was second at 5.80 and Zach Bradford of Kansas took bronze with a mark of 5.70.

Fritsch actually tied for the fifth-best height with Ethan Bray of South Dakota and Caleb Witsken of BYU, but they reached the mark in fewer attempts.
