CORPUS CHRISTI — The Sam Houston softball team fell 5-0 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the finale of a three-game Southland Conference series Saturday at Chapman Field.
The Bearkats (4-13, 1-2 SLC) managed just two hits against the Islanders (9-10, 2-1). The two teams split a conference opening doubleheader Friday, with A&M-Corpus Christi winning game one 4-2 and Sam Houston taking game two 6-0.
The Kats had a scoring opportunity in the fourth when freshman
Ellie Grill singled to left and stole second base with two outs. She moved to third after freshman Hannah Schaeffer reached on an error and senior
Brooke Malia walked to load the bases.
The Islanders got out of the jam and went on to score four runs in the bottom of the fourth to take the lead.

Brooklyn Devine had the only other hit for Sam Houston, a two-out single in the top of the seventh.
Sam Houston will host McNeese in a three-game series March 19-20. The opener will be March 19 at 6:30 p.m.
