HUNTSVILLE — Abilene Christian scored two goals in the second half to squeak past the Sam Houston soccer team 2-0 at Pritchett Field on Tuesday.
The Bearkats are now 1-4-1 in Southland Conference play this season. The Wildcats improved 7-5-1 overall and 3-3-1 in SLC action.
Sam Houston only managed two shots on goal in the contest.
The best scoring opportunity came on a penalty kick in the 78
th minute. Redshirt freshman
Katarina Baehren hit the side post to the right on the kick.
The Bearkats appeared to score off the ricochet, but an offsides call wiped the goal off the board.
Natalie Jones scored both goals for ACU. Her first came in the 58
th minute when she stole the ball on a goal kick and was able to float the ball over the out-reached arms of junior keeper
Abby DeLozier.
Jones add an insurance goal in the 82
nd minute on a penalty kick to the lower right corner of the net following a handball in the box.
DeLozier faced 15 shots, six on goal, and finished with four saves.
The Bearkats hit the road to face Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. Friday and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Sunday at 1 p.m.
