HOUSTON — Freshman
Katarina Baehren scored from about 60 yards out in the final minutes to lift the Sam Houston soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Houston Baptist in Southland Conference action Friday night.
Baehren's goal came in the 86
th minute on a free kick on the Bearkats' defensive side of the field as Sam Houston improved to 2-4-1 on the season.
The two teams played a scoreless first half, but the Kats broke the tie in the 58
th minute. Junior
Ashley Friedrichs scored her first goal of the season off an assist by sophomore
Brooke Jones.
The Huskies tied the match 12 minutes later. After Baehren's tiebreaker, junior goalkeeper
Abby DeLozier saved a shot on goal, one of her five on the night, in the bottom center of the net in the 88
th minute to seal the victory.
The Bearkats will face Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on the road Sunday at 1 p.m.
