Kats fall to Vandy at SLC Championships

In their only match of the day, the Sam Houston bowlers dropped their winner's bracket match against Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon at the Southland Bowling League Championships.
The Commodores jumped ahead of the Bearkats after Mabel Cummins (241), Angelica Anthony (214) and Jennifer Loredo (229) all scored above 200 to push their squad to a 1,053-932 victory in the traditional matchup.Â
Sam Houston responded in the Baker total pinfall round on the shoulders of Bea Hernandez, who scored a 279, giving the 'Kats an eight-pin advantage and a 1,108-1,101 win in the second set.
The Baker Best-of-Seven round is where Vandy shined bright, taking three of the opening four games before outscoring SHSU 218-213 in the sixth game to secure the victory.
The Kats will now face Louisiana Tech in and elimination match on Sunday morning and will then have to defeat Vandy twice to take the title.Â
