UCA sweeps Kats in softball DH

CONWAY, Ark. — UCA got a solo home run in the sixth to complete a doubleheader sweep of the Sam Houston softball team in the first-two games of a three-game series at Farris Field.
 
Freshman Mika Vento threw six solid innings for the Bearkats (7-15, 4-4 SLC) in game two with four strikeouts, but the offense managed only one hit.
 
The Bears used a big third inning to take game 1.
 
The Southland Conference series will conclude with one game Saturday at 1 p.m.
 
Game 1
UCA 11, Sam Houston 1 (5 inn.)
The Bears erupted for eight runs in the third inning to pull away for an 11-1 victory in game one of a doubleheader Friday at Farris Field.
 
After UCA took a 3-0 lead on three hits in the second, the Bearkats got on the board when freshman Hannah Schaeffer singled to lead off the top of the third. Senior Megan McDonald brought her home with a one-out single up the middle.
 
Freshmen Kylie Hobbs and Ellie Grill and sophomore Regan Dunn also hit safely for Sam Houston in the loss.

Freshman Kylie Hobbs singled in the fourth inning, but that was all the Bearkats could muster offensively in a 1-0 loss in the nightcap of a doubleheader at Farris Field.
 
Freshman Mika Vento gave Sam Houston a chance to win it by tossing five scoreless innings before giving up a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth. She finished with four strikeouts in the tough-luck loss.
