Blankenzee named to All-Region team

The honors keep rolling in for Sam Houston bowler Denise Blankenzee. The freshman from Julianadorp, Netherlands was named to the NTCA All-Region Central First Team.

Blankenzee, who was named the Southland Conference Bowler and Newcomer of the Year, was an all-tournament selection in five events this season.

The Bearkats also placed two other bowlers on the list, with Elise Chambers and Bea Hernandez each being named to the honorable mention.

Blankenzee led the Kats with a 21.09 traditional average and led the Southland with 424 strikes, heading into thee postseason. She has converted 52.5 percent of her strike attempts and ranks second in the SBL with a 20.88 individual overall frame average.

This the first year the National Tenpins Coaches Association has recognized and All-Region team.

"We thought with over 80 teams basically competing within their own regions all season that it would be easier to compare bowlers regionally," said NTCA President John Williamson. "This also puts us in line structurally with many other NCAA sports and it honors more individuals than simply announcing one All- America team."

The all-region team was the result of voting by participating head coaches. The NTCA will announce its traditional All-America team later this month.

The Bearkats advanced to their ninth NCAA tournament this season, advancing to the Regional Finals before falling to Youngstown State.
