HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston softball team's offensive woes continued as Houston Baptist came away with a pair of shutouts in a Southland Conference doubleheader sweep at the Bearkat Softball Complex Friday afternoon.
Huskies starting pitcher Jessica Patak no hit the Bearkats (7-20, 4-7 in SLC) in game one, which HBU (11-9, 4-7) won 8-0 in six innings. Sam Houston managed just one base runner in the loss when sophomore
Regan Dunn was hit by a pitch in the third inning.
Dunn, who took the loss in the circle to fall to 4-5 on the season, kept the Kats in it. The Huskies broke the game open with five runs in the sixth to put the run rule into effect.
Sam Houston had four hits in the nightcap, a 2-0 loss, but could not come up with a hit with runners in scoring position. Junior
Sheridan Fisher led the Bearkats with two hits, while senior
Megan McDonald and Dunn accounted for the other two.
Freshman pitcher
Mika Vento (3-5) only gave up four hits in the loss, but HBU managed two runs in the first inning which proved to be enough.
The two teams will cap the series with one game Saturday at noon.
