NATCHITOCHES, La. — Northwestern State got a pair of come-from-behind victories to sweep a Southland Conference doubleheader against the Sam Houston softball team at Lady Demon Diamond on Saturday.
The teams will play the finale of the three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m. Sam Houston is now 13-26 overall and 10-10 in SLC play, while the Lady Demons improved to 19-15 and 13-7.
Game 1
Northwestern State 4, Sam Houston 3 (9 inn.)
Northwestern State scored on an error in the bottom of the ninth inning to walk off with a 4-3 victory over Sam Houston in game one of a Southland Conference doubleheader at Lady Demon Diamond Saturday.
The Bearkats jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of RBI singles by freshman
Courtney White that scored sophomore
Kyndal Kutac in the second and pinch runner
Caitlyn Goodeaux in the fourth.
Sophomore
Regan Dunn scored Sam Houston's other run on an error in the fifth after the Lady Demons scored in the fourth.
Freshman
Mika Vento allowed only two earned runs in 8 2/3 innings to fall to 7-6 on the season.
Game 2
Northwestern State 6, Sam Houston 4
Keely Dubois hit a three-run home run in the bottom of the seventh to lift Northwestern State to a walk-off victory over Sam Houston in game two of a doubleheader Saturday evening.
Once again, the Bearkats struck first when freshman
Ellie Grill hit a lead-off single in the third and moved to third on a hit by senior
Megan McDonald. Sophomore
Kyndal Kutac followed with a two-run single to up the middle.
Sam Houston added two more in the fourth when freshman
Courtney White ripped a one-out double and advanced to third when sophomore
Regan Dunn reached on an error. Dunn then stole second, and the pair scored when junior
Sheridan Fisher laced a single into left to make it 4-1.
The Lady Demons added two more runs in the sixth to cut the lead to 4-3.
Dunn took the loss in the circle to fall to 5-9 on the season. She allowed six hits and issued five walks.
