Baehren nabs weekly soccer honor

FRISCO — Sam Houston freshman Katarina Baehren has been named the Southland Conference Defender of the Week for her performances in a pair of wins last week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Baehren continued to anchor a defense that has helped the Bearkats win four matches in a row with a 2-1 victory over McNeese April 1 and a 2-0 upset of first-place Lamar on April 3. Sam Houston's defense only allowed one goal while facing 27 shots.

The Cypress product played all but two minutes in both matches, missing time only because of injury before returning to the game against the Cardinals.

Sophomore Brooke Jones was honorable mention Offensive Player of the Week after scoring a goal in both matches, and sophomore Tatum Krueger was honorable mention Goalkeeper of the Week for her shutout performance against Lamar.
