Fritsch earns SLC weekly field honor

FRISCO — Sam Houston pole vaulter Clayton Fritsch has been named the Southland Conference men's Field Athlete of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

The junior from Sealy picked up where he left off in the indoor season by posting the top mark in the Southland Conference in the pole vault with a leap of 5.62 meters at the Houston Alumni Invitational over the weekend. The top height of the meet was almost a foot higher than second place, and it currently ranks fifth in the nation.

Fritsch won the SLC indoor pole vault championship and placed seventh at the 2021 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in March.
