HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston Bearkats fell behind early and could not make up the difference as Abilene Christian picked up a 10-1 win in the series opener on Friday night at Don Sanders. Stadium.
ACU (29-17, 20-11 SLC) won its 10
th game in a row behind a big offensive night that saw them erupt for six runs in the sixth inning to essentially put the game away. The Wildcats staked themselves to a 2-0 lead with runs in the first and third before Sam Houston (22-20, 16-12 SLC) cut in half with an RBI single by
Bryce Holmes in the fourth; however, ACU answered with eight runs over the next two frames.
Tyler Morgan was the benefactor for ACU, picking up his first win of the season after allowing just one run over 7.0 innings.
Tyler Davis took the loss for the Kats, allowing seven runs in 5.1 innings of his own.
Sam Houston and ACU will square off two more times on Saturday before closing out the series on Sunday at noon.
