3 Kats land on All-SLC softball teams

FRISCO — Three Sam Houston softball players have been named to the 2021 All-Southland Conference teams, the league announced Monday.

Senior Megan McDonald is a first-team selection, freshman Hannah Scheaffer was tabbed to the second team and junior Sheridan Fisher landed on the third team.

McDonald is a two-time all-conference selection at center field and had a perfect fielding percentage this season. The Georgetown product hit .341 in SLC play with seven RBI and 30 hits including a double and a triple, and she scored 15 runs.

She is the all-time leader in games played at Sam Houston. McDonald was named the SLC Student-Athlete of the Year in 2020 and was a first-team all-conference selection in 2019.

Scheaffer had a breakout year for the Bearkats in her first complete season after seeing limited action in 2019. The catcher from Cypress hit .317 in conference action with 19 hits, three home runs, two doubles and nine runs driven in.

Fisher had a solid season in the outfield for Sam Houston. She hit .296 with eight RBIs and 21 hits including a double with 13 runs scored.

The Cypress product was also an honorable mention All-SLC honoree in 2019.
