HUNTSVILLE — Alexis Truitt scored her first goal as a Bearkat to lift the Sam Houston soccer squad to a 1-0 victory over former Southland Conference foe McNeese at Pritchett Field Sunday evening.
After starting the season with two tough road matchups, the Bearkats went 2-0 during this past weekend's homestand to improve to 2-2 on the season. Sam Houston topped Grambling 2-1 in overtime Friday.
The game was scoreless with several close calls until the Kats final broke through in the 79
th minute. A ball played in the box ricocheted to Truitt who was able to sneak a sliding toe poke past diving Cowgirl goalkeeper Emma Roccaforte into the right back corner of the net.
Goalkeeper
Abby DeLozier earned the shutout in the net thanks to solid defensive play by the Bearkats. She faced seven shots on goal and finished with seven saves.
Sam Houston hits the road this week to face No. 20 Texas A&M in College Station Friday at 7 p.m.
