Bearkat bowlers record two top 25 wins Friday

The No. 1 ranked Bearkats were back in action on Friday for the North East Classic in Deptford, New Jersey. The Kats opened the tournament with a 2-3 record and currently sit in fourth place in the 18-team field.

After dropping the opening match of the day against FDU, the Kats notched wins over Mount St. Mary's and Duquesne. They posted their biggest score of the day against Mount St. Mary's, knocking down 1,120 pins.

They topped 1,000 pins in their final four matches including a pair of close losses to LIU and UMES, falling by a total of 62 pins.

"Overall we scored decently today," said head coach Brad Hagen. "The final two matches came down to just two frames each. Just a couple of slow starts in each match was the difference between two wins and four."

The 1,120 score was the second-best of the day, behind Vanderbilt, who are the overall leaders. The Kats trail Vandy by 270 total pins and are 103 back of third place McKendree.

The Kats will be back in action on Saturday as they look to notch a top four finish to get into the championship bracket on Sunday.
