Bowlers qualify for championship bracket in Jersey

With a 3-2 day on the lanes, the No. 1-ranked Bearkats finished as the No. 4 seed at the North East Classic and advanced to the championship bracket on Sunday.

The Kats picked up three wins against ranked opponents, knocking off No. 4 North Carolina A&T, No. 14 Delaware State and No. 25 Monmouth.

The Kats will face No. 3 seed Youngstown State in the best-of-7 bracket play on Sunday.

"Overall our shot making was a lot better today and we had a lot more trust in our reactions," said head coach Brad Hagen. "The end of the day the lanes got tighter which is the characteristics of this center. It's all about crosses and that last set we didn't see the right shape until we were half way through the game and by then it was too late. We still had some very quality wins today and we're improving each day which is what matters."

Denise Blankenzee finished as the top individual on Saturday, with a 239.4 average in her five games. Blankenzee topped 200 in four of her games, including a tournament best 290 in the third match of the day.

Hayley Connelly registered a top 20 finish, checking in a 19^th with a 214 average and a high game of 248.
