Utah Tech drops Kats, 3-1

HUNTSVILLE – McKenzie Morvant put a career-best 13 kills, but Utah Tech had all the answers on Thursday night in picking up a 3-1 win over Sam Houston at Johnson Coliseum.
The Kats (6-15, 3-4 WAC) dropped close sets in both Sets 1 and 2 before staying alive with a win in Set 3, but hit a match-low .019 in the final frame as the Trailblazers (9-7, 3-4 WAC) were able to close it out.
Morvant was a bright spot for the Kats, hitting .300 for the match in setting a new career high and adding four blocks. Catherine Krieger was right behind her with 12 kills and Madison Dyer had 11 kills and six rejections.
Hannah Baker totaled 28 of the Bearkats' 96 total digs and was one of four SHSU players with at least a dozen balls kept alive. Setters Avery Fowler (20 assists, 18 digs) and Analise Lucio (19 assists, 16 digs) each finished with double-doubles.
Sam Houston will try to put an end to its current 3-match losing skid on Saturday when it hosts Southern Utah at 1:00 p.m. at Johnson Coliseum.
