Avery Fowler had 17 assists, but the Thunderbirds (4-12, 3-4 WAC) got 42 of their 54 kills from three players to get the win.
Sam Houston looked to be in control early in the match with a set-point try in Set 1 before SUU closed on an 8-2 run to take a 1-0 lead before rolling to a 2-0 lead with .270 hitting in Set 2.
The Kats also had their chances in Set 3 to close things out, but SUU was able to fight off three set-point tries before scoring the final three points of the match.
Sam Houston will now go back on the road next week for a pair of in-state matches, starting Thursday at Stephen F. Austin and following that up with a trip to UT Arlington.
