No. 1 Sam Houston 45, Tarleton 27
Memorial Stadium - Stephenville - 10/30/2021
– Top-ranked Sam Houston scored 31 unanswered points to open things up in a win in 2021, the first meeting between the Bearkats and Texans as conference foes since 1975

- The win was the 250th in the career of K.C. Keeler and the 18th consecutive victory for the Kats dating back to 2019

- SHSU quarterback Eric Schmid accounted for six touchdowns - five thru the air - to lead the Kats who finished with 575 total yards of offense

- Ramon Jefferson paced the explosive attack with 179 rushing yards on 23 carries; Cody Chrest set a career high with 139 receiving yards on nine catches

LEFTOVERS FROM AN 18-13 WIN OVER UTAH TECH
- The Kats recorded a safety forced by Caleb Weaver in the third quarter, the team's first safety forced since 2019 when the Kats picked up a 2-pointer at Central Arkansas

- The Kats entered the game with only 7.0 sacks in their first 5 games, but finished with 5.0 sacks of the Trailblazers for the night

- Two of those sacks were credited to Kavian Gaither, who was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week after setting career highs with 11 tackles, 4.0 TFLs and 2.0 sacks. He is the first Bearkat since Markel Perry vs Monmouth in the Spring 2021 FCS Playoffs to have at least 4.0 TFLs in a single game

- Cody Chrest turned in the biggest game of his Bearkat career against the Trailblazers, setting career highs with 10 receptions for 154 yards. That made him the first 100-yard receiver for the Kats this season and surpassed his previous career bests of 9 catches for 139 yards set last season at Tarleton

- Sam Houston held Utah Tech to just 246 yards of total offense, marking the second time this year the Kats have held a team under 250 yards. The Kats have not allowed 400 yards of total offense since the opener at Texas A&M and enter the week ranked 32nd in the FCS (2nd in the WAC) with an average of 339.8 ypg allowed per game

- Kicker Seth Morgan continued his strong play by hitting three of his four field goal tries in Utah and snagging his second straight WAC Special Teams Player of the Week honor. He is now 7-for-8 on field goals over the last two weeks and ranks second in the WAC with 11 made field goals this season
