ARLINGTON – Sam Houston middle blocker Madison Dyer was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week by league officials on Monday after helping lead the Bearkats to road wins at Seattle U and Utah Valley over the weekend.
Â
Dyer, a true freshman from Flower Mound, averaged 1.33 blocks per set in the wins with 12 total blocks for the weekend. She did much of her work on Saturday vs Utah Valley – a team who won the WAC Tournament a year ago – when she put together her first career double-double with 15 kills and 10 total blocks.
Â
She is one of three players in the WAC to total 10 or more blocks in a single match, joining teammate McKenzie Morvant who had 11 rejections against McNeese earlier in the season.
Â
Dyer was also a weapon offensively for the Kats as she averaged 3.22 kills per set for the weekend and swung at a .365 clip.
Â
The Kats are currently riding a 3-match win streak and will open up a 4-match homestand beginning Thursday when they host league-leading UTRGV who enters the match with a 4-0 mark in WAC play.
