NEW ORLEANS — The Sam Houston women's basketball team jumped out to a first quarter lead but could not hang on in a 90-51 loss to Tulane on Sunday.
The Bearkats (1-3) fell behind by four points in the opening period then started to get in a rhythm offensively.
A layup by
Chyna Allen tied the game at 11 and she finished off the old fashion three-point play to give Sam Houston a one-point advantage.
Mikayla Woods followed with a pull-up jumper, and
Kenyal Perry scored on an offensive rebound to make it 16-11.
The Bearkats biggest lead was at the 1:22 mark when
Sydnee Kemp made a jumper to make it 18-11.
Tulane closed the quarter with a 4-0 run and outscored Sam Houston 24-10 in the second quarter to pull away.
Woods led the Kats with 14 points and five rebounds. Allen chipped in 10 points, and Kemp and Perry each scored eight.
Sam Houston returns to action Wednesday when they play at TCU at 6:30 p.m.
