MILLSBORO, Del. — The Sam Houston bowling team placed seventh at the Eastern Shore Hawk Classic on Sunday at Millsboro Lanes.
The Bearkats finished behind champion North Carolina A&T, Vanderbilt, Youngstown State, Fairleigh Dickinson, Duquesne and Delaware State.
Sam Houston opened the final day with close loss to Youngstown State. The match went to a tie breaker after both teams won three games and tied one and Youngstown was able to take the final 120-73.
The Bearkats then lost to Duquesne 4-1 but bounced back with a 4-1 win over host Maryland Eastern Shore to capture seventh out of 18 teams.
"Much better day on Sunday from a consistency standpoint but we still have a lot of work to do and we need to learn again not only to win but close those matches that are close," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We've let way too many matches go this first half just from not closing things out or applying the right kind of pressure on the other team. Regroup, reset and get everyone healthy for the second half, as well as change things up is the priority right now."
