DEPTFORD, N.J. — The Sam Houston bowling team placed 11th at the Northeast Classic on Sunday at Bowlero Deptford.
The Bearkats finished the three-day tournament with 13,163 total pins. Nebraska took home the championship followed by Vanderbilt, Stephen F. Austin, McKendree, Youngstown State, Maryville, Arkansas State, North Carolina A&T, Central Missouri and Duquesne.
Sam Houston lost 4-1 to Duquesne to begin the day then lost a close match to Central Missouri 4-3. The Kats bounced back with a 4-1 victory over Mercyhurst to close out the tournament.
"It was a dismal day at best. We're doing all the right things in practice, but they're just not transferring over to competition," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We certainly need to find a way to engage that extra gear, and we have to find someone to step up. The no brainers need to be no brainers."
