ARLINGTON — The Sam Houston bowling team closed out the Prairie View Invitational on a strong note at the IRTC on Sunday.
The Bearkats placed sixth in the loaded field with with 10,611 total pins during the three-day event. Vanderbilt went on to win the tournament followed by Stephen F. Austin, Nebraska, McKendree and North Carolina A&T.
Sam Houston knocked off No. 6 Arkansas State 4-1 with a decisive 246-182 win in match five. The Bearkats then battled North Carolina A&T in a tight match for fifth place before falling 3-2.
"Overall, today was solid and two more top 10 wins certainly doesn't hurt," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We have to be more efficient within our means and do a better job of capitalizing when our opponent makes mistakes. If we can keep cleaning these things up as we move forward, then we'll give ourselves a shot."
