HOUSTON — The Sam Houston bowling team has advanced to the championship bracket at the TRACK Kat Klash after another solid showing on Saturday at Emerald Bowl.
Â
The Bearkats went a perfect 5-0 on day two to improve to 7-3 and move into third place with 10,235 total pins, an average of 204.7 per match. McKendree took over the top spot with 10,554 pins followed by North Carolina A&T (10,307), Sam Houston and Maryville (10,190), which earned the final spot in the championship bracket.
"Today was a much more collective effort," head coach Brad Hagen said. "We wanted to take advantage of the fresh yet we needed to be more mentally proactive during transition. The middle of the block of lanes get tricky and you need to grind and find something as efficiently as possible. We did a good job of that today. Sunday we have a chance and put ourselves in contention to win an event, and that's always the goal every tournament."
Â
Denise Blankenzee led the way for the Kats on Saturday with a 214.40 average to place ninth in the individual standings. In the first two matches, she scored 237 and 233 as Sam Houston took care of Delaware State 1,127-998 and N.C. A&T 1,061-1,011.
Â
Elise Chambers ended the day in 15th place with a 210.0 average. She had two impressive showings with a 247 in the win over Delaware State and a 249 in a 1,031-954 win over Central Missouri to end the day.
