Kats close regular season with 3-1 win over ACU

HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston volleyball team kept its postseason hopes alive and closed out the regular season with a 3-1 win on Saturday afternoon over Abilene Christian at Johnson Coliseum.

The win for the Kats (8-20, 5-9 WAC) is the second in the row for the team after dropping eight straight contests and has them in a hunt for a berth in the WAC Tournament. With its regular season finished, Sam Houston will have to watch and wait for results of the final week of league play to find out its destiny.

Three players finished with at least a dozen kills for Sam Houston, helping the team hit .213 for the match, while 11 Bearkat blocks helped hold ACU (7-17, 4-8 WAC) to just .153 hitting of its own and even the season series after the Wildcats got a win in Abilene to open up league play.

Madison Dyer and Catherine Krieger each totaled 13 kills apiece, with Krieger picking 11 digs for a double-double and Dyer nearly achieving the feat with nine blocks. McKenzie Morvant also continued to be an offensive force, hitting. 400 for the match and adding 12 kills.

Avery Fowler (27 assists, 13 digs) and Analise Lucio (10 assists, 10 digs) gave the Kats three players with double-doubles and Hannah Baker finished with 26 digs.

At the net, Madison Frusha had five blocks and Elizabeth See had four. Both players also finished with four kills.
