MONROE, La. — It took a while to get rolling, but once the Bearkats pieced it together they speed away with a 79-53 victory over ULM on Wednesday at Fant-Ewing Coliseum.
Sam Houston (8-2) used a 33-13 run to start the second half to take a 25-point lead at 64-39 to essentially put the game of out of reach midway through the period.
Cameron Huefner led the way with a game-high 18 points on 4 for 5 shooting from long range, while
Donte Powers added 12 points and
Lamar Wilkerson and
Jaden Ray each finished with 11.
Turnovers kept the Warhawks (3-8) in it as they overcame a double-digit lead in the first half to go into the break down 31-26. After opening the second half with a free throw, that was as close as ULM would get the rest of the way.
Sam Houston used a 7-0 run and an 8-0 run to go back up double figures. The largest lead came at 79-51 in the closing seconds.
The Bearkats dominated the glass, outrebounding the Warhawks 41-19 which included 16 offensive boards that led to 16 points. Sam Houston also scored 29 points off 18 turnovers.
When the dust had settled, the Kats had shot a red-hot 50 percent of their shots and knocked down a season-high 12 3-point shots on 50 percent shooting from behind the arc.
