Soccer adds two more standouts

HUNTSVILLE — Sam Houston soccer coach Sonia Curvelo is pleased to announce the addition of two more standouts for the 2023 recruiting class.

Solae Young and Jasmine Dybala signed their letters of intent Friday to play for the Bearkats next season.
Â
Dybala is a native of Corona, California and is dual enrolled at John F. Kennedy Middle College and Corona High School. She was named Big VIII All-League and to the All-Academic team.
Â
Dybala, who plays club for Legends FC, earned the JFK 4.0 Award, JFK Leader of the Pack Award, the JFK 30+ Norco College Units Award and is expected to be graduate with four associate degrees. She also is the Pure Joy Director of Soccer, a youth soccer program she runs for the local school district.

"Jasmine is tactically and technically very talented," Curvelo said. "She is a natural leader and will make an immediate impact on the program. She is always trying to achieve excellence in the classroom and on the field. She is a great communicator on the field and will motivate her teammates vocally and by example. She is confident in the way she plays, and she will have a strong presence on the field. I look forward to coaching her at Sam Houston."

Young is a native of Sugar Land and attends Stephen F. Austin High School. She is a four-year letter winner, two-time all-district performer as a starting forward and midfielder, senior team captain and was the Offensive Most Valuable Player on high school team as a sophomore.

Young plays club for the Houston Dash 05 GA and is a two-time selection to the district all-academic team. She is also the varsity kicker on her high school's football team and is an avid volunteer in her community.                                                              Â

"Solae is a forward that looks to go toward the goal to score," Curvelo said. "Her mentality is impressive when she goes for goal. She is very hungry in the 18-yard box to score goals which is important in the college game. She works hard and has the right mindset to want to improve. Her development in the game will only get better, and I look forward to seeing her grow over the next four years."
