Bowling signs standout from Thailand

HUNTSVILLE — The nationally ranked Sam Houston bowling program is pleased to announce its newest signee, Ramita Sarntong.

Sarntong of Samutprakarn, Thailand is coming off her most successful summer of her career. This year has seen her excel all over the Asian Pacific and on some of the biggest stages as she joins the Bearkats.Â

The most recent accomplishment coming at the 46th Thailand International Open where Sarntong finished first in the Women's Open division and third in the Youth Under18. Additionally, she saw success at the 21st MWA Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championships where she won gold in all events over 18 games averaging 215.78 and winning bronze in single averaging 214.83.

Additional accomplishments include first place (U18), first place (U21), first place (Women's Open) at the 2022 Thailand Tenpin Bowling Championships as well as winning first place (Women's Grade A singles event) at the 45th Hong Kong International.Â

"Ramita's passion and drive to join us and get to work will be a great asset as she gets acclimated," head coach Brad Hagen said. Â

Sarntong is the first ever signee from Thailand, the 12th international bowler to join the Bearkat bowling program over the past 13 seasons and will be the 16th to have represented their national team as a Bearkat.Â

"Her international and competitive experience will play key roles in her success on and off the lanes," Hagen added. "Ramita's past summer success, competitive discipline and work ethic makes her an excellent addition to this program's future."
Sarntong joins Sam Houston from Assumption Samutprakarn School and Assumption University. At SHSU she plans on majoring and continuing her education in business.
