Kats post solid marks at UH meet

HOUSTON — The Sam Houston track and field teams continue to improve after another strong indoor meet showing at the Howie Ryan Invitational hosted by Houston.

Clayton Fritsch once again blew away the rest of the field in the pole vault. His height of 18 feet, 6 ½ inches is the fourth best in the nation this indoor season and was 2 ½ feet better than second place, which went to Rylan Olguin at 16 feet, ¾ inch.

Joshua Hamilton also had a solid performance in the triple jump. He bested the field with a leap of 47 feet, 4 ½ inches.

For the women, Rajer Gurode finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.52. Morgan Janda tied for second in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 3 inches.

Ariel Williams was third in the 200 meters with a mark of 25.27. Haviland Harris finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.69.

Denzel Downing placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.10 seconds. Daviciea McCartney was on his heels in fifth with a mark of 8.14.

Erin Brown has the fifth best time in the 200 meters at 21.89, just ahead of teammates Everett Tippins (21.92) and Eric Callaway (21.94). Jacob Thomas was ninth at 22.24.

Benjamin Marshall was sixth in the 400 with a mark of 49.52, and Glen Bender was 10th at 50.05. William Boyce was sixth in the 800 with a time of 1:55.13, while Eli Ortiz was ninth at 1:56.25.

Elijah McWilliams was eighth in the mile with a time of 4:21.43, and Mario Ruiz finished ninth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:03.05.

Shelby Smith was fourth (7.74) and Kenshana Page was seventh (8.02) in the 60 meters and in the 200 with a time of 25.85. Shaynea Redmond was sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 38 feet, 4 ¾ inches.
