2022 WAC Indoor Championship Final Results

Albuquerque, N.M. — The Sam Houston men's track and field team captured third place at the 2022 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday.

The Bearkats missed second place by one point as Stephen F. Austin nudge Sam Houston 96.50 to 95.50. Grand Canyon ran away with first place by scoring 201.50 points.

The Lumberjacks clinched second by edging the Kats in the mile relay to close out the meet. SFA won first with a time of 3:11.08 ahead of second place SHSU's mark of 3:12.25.

Senior Clayton Fritsch who set a new WAC record and meet record while winning the pole vault Friday was named the men's Most Outstanding Field Athlete.

The Sam Houston women placed sixth with 65.50 points. Grand Canyon also won the women's championship with 112 points.

Joe Austin captured second place in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.76.

Deveon Thomas earned the silver medal in the men's weight throw with a mark of 60 feet, 8 inches. Luke Thielemann placed fifth with a distance of 57 feet, 3 inches.

Daviciea McCartney brought home the bronze medal with a leap of 48 feet, 7 ½ inches in the men's triple jump. Joshua Hamilton finished right behind him in fourth with a jump of 48 feet, 3 ¼ inches.

Andrew Bosquez placed third in the mile run with a time of 4:10.62. He also earned some valuable points in the 3,000-meter run with a sixth-place performance.

Tia Harry won bronze in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.56 seconds. Rajer Gurode made it to the medal stand with a third-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.46 ahead of teammate Anivea Gilbert at 7.55.

Gilbert took fourth in the 200-meter run with a time of 24.36, and Gurode was fifth at 24.45.

Steven Gruss just missed the medal stand with a fourth-place finish in the high jump. He posted a mark of 6 feet, 8 ¼ inches.

Denzel Downing took fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.01 seconds. McCartney was seventh with a mark of 8.19.

Erin Brown placed fourth in the men's 400 meters with a mark of 47.78. Rylan Olguin-May finished sixth in the heptathlon with 4,978 points.

Rachel Maciejeski took fifth in the pole vault with a height of 11 feet, 9 ¾ inches. Rebeca Gonzalez was sixth in the mile with a time of 5:00.61. Jackeria Woodkins came in seventh in the 400 meters with a mark of 56.44, and Shelby Smith was eighth in the 60 meters with a time of 7.73.

Morgan Janda finished seventh in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 5 ¼ inches. Shaynea Redmond placed sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 38 feet, 11 ¾ inches.

William Boykins placed seventh in the 400 with a time of 1:59.81. Eric Callaway also finished seventh with a time of 21.56 in the 200.
