Fritsch, Gurode receive WAC weekly honors

DENVER — Sam Houston's Clayton Fritsch and Rajer Gurode have received WAC indoor track and field weekly honors for their performances over the weekend, league officials announced Tuesday.

Fritsch, a senior from Sealy, was named the men's WAC Field Athlete of the Week after he won the pole vault event at the Howie Ryan Invitational hosted by Houston. He updated his season best with a 5.65-meter mark. His performance kept him first in the WAC and placed him fourth in the NCAA performance lists according to TFRRS.

Gurode, a freshman from Bryan, was named the women's Track Athlete of the Week. She finished runner-up in the 60-meter dash at the Howie Ryan Invitational and clocked a season best time of 7.52 seconds which puts her second in the WAC performance list according to TFRRS.

The Bearkats will compete at the WAC Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. on Friday and Saturday.
