Fritsch takes gold, breaks WAC records

Albuquerque, N.M. — Senior Clayton Fritsch set a new WAC record and meet record in the pole vault Friday at the 2022 WAC Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Fritsch turned in his highest mark of the season with a vault of 18 feet, 9 ½ inches to place first. The mark is now the fourth best in the nation this season and more than a foot higher than second place.

KeAyla Dove also crushed the field to win gold in the women's shot put. Her throw of 56 feet easily topped the second-place finisher by more than four feet.

The men's 4,000-meter distance medley relay of Andrew Bosquez, Benjamin Marshall, Elijah McWilliams and Christian Rivera won silver with a time of 10:16.21.

Lilly Rodel captured the bronze in the women's shot put with a mark of 48 feet, 7 ¼ inches. The 4,000-meter distance medley relay team of Haley Thomas, Haviland Harris, Rebeca Gonzalez, Sasha Elizondo, Cryslan Tucker, Haley Williams and Jackeria Woodkins also placed third with a time of 12:31.47.

Cobe Graham just missed the medal stand with a fifth-place finish in the men's shot put. His toss measured 54 feet, 1 inch.

The men currently sit in fifth place with 23.5 points and the women are sixth with 22 points through five events.
