Fritsch, Bosquez lead Kats at indoor meet

COLLEGE STATION — The Sam Houston indoor track and field teams had a strong showing at the Charlie Thomas Invitational hosted by Texas A&M Feb. 4-5.

Senior Clayton Fritsch rolled to a first-place finish in the pole vault with a season-best mark of 18 feet, 2 inches which was almost a foot higher than second place to highlight action for the Bearkats. His height is the sixth best in the country.

Senior Andrew Bosquez was impressive in the mile run, finishing second with a personal-best time of 4:04.93. Freshman Christian Rivera placed fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a mark of 14:48.84, and freshman Colton Stunkard was seventh with a time of 15:11.99.

Junior Steven Gruss was sixth in the high jump with a height of 6 feet, 6 ¾ inches, and junior Deveon Thomas was sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 59 feet, 4 ¼ inches. Junior Rylan Olguin was sixth in the heptathlon with 4,747 points, senior Joe Austin III placed seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.43, junior Elijah McWilliams was ninth with a personal best of 1:53.93.

Freshman KeAyla Dove placed fourth in the shot put with a throw of 53 feet. In the women's 60-meter dash, freshman Rajer Gurode just missed qualifying for the finals with a ninth-place finish at 7.56 seconds, and she turned in a personal best in the 200 with a time of 24.57.

Also turning in personal bests were sophomore Keshana Page in the 200 (25.54), senior Rebeca Gonzalez in the mile (5:00.09), junior Sasha Elizondo in the mile(5:01.19), sophomore Tia Harry in the 60-meter hurdles (8.63), freshman Rachel Maciejeski in the pole vault (12 feet, 11 inches), freshman Charlee Salinas in the shot put (45 feet, 3 ½ inches) and freshman McKenna Webb in the pole vault (10 feet, 11 ¾ inches).

Bearkat men who turned in personal bests were sophomore Jacob Thomas in the 60 (7.12), freshman Erin Brown in the 200 (21.64) and 400 (49.40), Bosquez in the 800 (1:55.68), sophomore Eli Ortiz in the mile (4:20.07), senior Eduardo Gutierrez in the 3,000 meters (8:45.23), Daviciea McCartney in the 60 hurdles (8.24), sophomore Cobe Graham in the shot put (55 feet, ¼ inch)
