Kats drop two at Hall of Fame Classic

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Sam Houston softball team dropped a heartbreaker to San Diego in extra innings before falling to No. 1 Oklahoma at the Hall of Fame Classic on Friday.
 
The Bearkats (9-17) lost 7-6 in 11 innings to San Diego and 10-1 in five innings to the top ranked Sooners. Sam Houston will face Iowa at 11 a.m. Saturday and Indiana at 1:30 p.m.
 
The Bearkats broke a tied game with the Toreros in the top of the 11th.With Ellie Grill on second to start the frame, Hannah Scheaffer moved her to third with a single and she scored on a sacrifice fly by Sheridan Fisher.
 
San Diego answered in the bottom of the inning with a walk-off double to steal the victory from Sam Houston.
 
The Kats took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Brodie Quinlan and tied the game at 2 in the fifth on another RBI single by Quinlan. Elia Hebel put Sam Houston up 3-2 with a run-scoring single to left center field.
 
Fisher hit a sacrifice fly to bring in a run in the top of the seventh, and Emily Telg scored on a throwing error by the catcher to put the Bearkats up 5-2, but San Diego added three runs in the bottom of the inning to extend the game.
 
Against the Sooners, Sam Houston fell behind early as Oklahoma put up six runs in the bottom of the second inning and added two more in the third and fourth.
 
The Bearkats loaded the bases when Sheridan Fisher singled and Ellie Grill and Brodie Quinlan both walked to begin the 5th. Kyndal Kutac walked to score Sam Houston's only run as the Sooners were able to get out of the jam.
