Softball set to open season with Bearkat Classic

HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston softball team made some noise in its second season in Conference USA competition a year ago, and head coach Garrett Valis and his squad are ready to take the next step.
The Bearkats will open the 2026 season when they host the annual Bearkat Classic on Feb. 6-8 in Huntsville. Sam Houston will host South Dakota, Creighton and Central Arkansas during the three-day event.
Season-ticket renewals are scheduled to become available for the 2026 season on Friday just in time for the holidays and can be purchased by visiting GoBearkats.com/tickets or by calling the Bearkat Ticket Office at (936) 294-1729.
The impressive slate will continue when the Kats head to the Mardi Gras Mambo in Youngsville, Louisiana Feb. 13-15. Sam Houston will be joined at that tournament by St. Thomas, Southern Illinois Edwardsville, Eastern Illinois, Georgia State and New Mexico.
A familiar face will be in Huntsville for a single game on Feb. 17 when Lamar comes to the Bearkat Softball Complex. That is followed by the Bearkat Invitational Feb. 19-21 which will feature Houston Christian, Austin Peay and Prairie View.
Sam Houston hosts Baylor on Feb. 25 then will play in the Oklahoma tournament Feb. 27-March 1 before a midweek day trip to Lamar on March 3.
Sam Houston kicks off Conference USA play with three games at UTEP on March 6-8 and will follow that with a home game against SFA on March 10 and a road contest at Texas State on March 11.
The rest of CUSA play will see the Kats host NM State on March 13-15, travel to Kennesaw State March 20-22 and host Middle Tennessee on March 27-29. April begins with the Bearkats at WKU April 2-4 before a home series with Missouri State on April 10-12, a road matchup at Louisiana Tech on April 17-19 and at FIU on April 24-26.
Sam Houston will wrap up the CUSA regular season schedule with a home series with Jacksonville State April 30-May 2.
Other midweek games include UTSA at Bearkat Softball Complex on March 18 and a road tilt Texas A&M on March 24. Sam Houston will play at SFA on April 7 and at Houston on April 21.
The Conference USA Tournament is scheduled for May 6-9 in Newark, Delaware.
