Kats close out Hall of Fame Classic

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. — The Sam Houston softball team finished the Hall of Fame Classic with a pair of losses to Big Ten programs on Saturday.
The Bearkats (9-19) dropped the opener 11-4 to Iowa and fell 2-0 in the finale against Indiana.
Sam Houston brought the game-winning run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh inning against the Hoosiers. Taylor Bachmeyer reaced on a fielding error to start the frame and Kyndal Kutac singled but both runners were left stranded on base.
Mika Vento took the loss in the circle despite pitching five scoreless innings. She gave up a run in the fourth and six innings while scattering five hits.
Iowa took a 2-0 lead in the first inning of game one, but the Bearkats answered. Kutac walked and came around to score on an RBI double by Brodie Quinlan.
The Hawkeyes took the lead for good with three runs in the second.
Sam Houston got a run back in the third on a solo home run by Elia Hebel. The Kats pulled within 5-4 when Kutac doubled to lead off the fifth and scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Jordan Peno, who would later score on an RBI single by Brailey Wasik.
Iowa scored three runs in the sixth and seventh to seal the victory.
