Kats sit in 7th at Music City Classic

With two days in the books at the Music City Classic, the Sam Houston Bearkats posted an 8-2 record and will be the No. 7 seed in Sunday's bracket play.

After a 3-2 record on Saturday, the Bearkats will face Maryville University in the first match of the day Sunday morning.

"8-2 is pretty solid any other day but we certainly got there the hard way," said head coach Brad Hagen. "We gave away too many pins too often and when you have the caliber of field that you do it makes things super demanding to play catch up."

The Kats topped 1,000 pins in four of their five matches on Saturday, and averaged 201.7. They were one of eight schools with a 200 or better average in the 33 team field.

"We need to take advantage of how well we've done in the fresh and do what we can to get w's on Sunday," Hagen said. "Wins are the only thing that matters and building some momentum going in to conference."

After a 211 pin loss to Louisiana Tech, the Kats bounced back at beat Spalding, No. 15 Tulane before dropping a match to Vandy. They closed out the day with a win over Aurora.

Denise Blankenzee led the way for the Kats with a 225 average. She saved her best for last, bowling 249 and 245 in her final two games of the day. She finished in 25^th place overall. Elsie Chambers was a spot back in 26^th with a 211 average.
