HUNTSVILLE — Andjela Vidovic came up with one of the biggest wins of her young career to lift the Sam Houston tennis team to a 4-3 victory over Stephen F. Austin on Friday at the McAdams Tennis Center.
The freshman from Subotica, Serbia dropped her first set at No. 2 singles to Nyah Kauders 6-4. Vidovic then came roaring back to clinch the dual match victory for the Bearkats (7-8) by dominating the next two sets 6-1, 6-1.
The Ladyjacks (8-7) won the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3, but Sam Houston got going in singles play.
Megan Basson defeated Ana Kouchnareva 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, and
Sunskrithi Damera knocked off Zala Ule 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot.
Lusine Chobanyan reached a career milestone with her 6-3, 6-0 victory over Lucy Furness at No. 4 singles. It was her 71
st career singles win which moves her into third place for most singles victories in school history.
The Bearkats will get back to WAC play next weekend when they play in a pod at Stephenville against Tarleton on April 2 and Abilene Christian on Sunday.
