HOUSTON — The Sam Houston track and field teams had a strong performance at the 39th Victor Lopez Classic hosted by Rice over the weekend.

Rebeca Gonzalez placed first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:17.46 and just missed a top-three finish by coming in fourth in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:37.48. Cryslan Tucker who finished fourth in the 5,000 at 17:35.49.

Sasha Elizondo placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a mark of 2:17.59, while Haley Thomas finished ninth at 2:22.95.

Jemia Goree was eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 25.38, and London Powell finished ninth in the 400 with a time of 1:00.59. Bethany Kelly came in 10th in the 100 hurdles with a mark of 15.89.

Morgan Janda was second in the high jump with a height of 5 feet, 6 inches while Kelly was fourth at 5 feet, 3 inches. Alie Angelo was seventh with a mark of 5 feet, 1 inch and third in the javelin with a throw of 111 feet, Haviland Harris at the 2021 SLC Outdoors4 inches.

Charlee Salinas was second in the shot put at 47 feet, 1 ½ inches, and Lilly Rodel was third at 45 feet, 10 ¾ inches and fifth in the hammer throw at 137 feet.

On the men's side, Javain Johnson was second in the 100 with a time of 10.82 seconds, and Elijah Simpson was sixth at 11.14. Jacob Thomas and Nathaniel McRae finished fourth and fifth in the 200 with times of 21.78 and 22.31.

Andrew Bosquez turned in the fifth-best time in the 800 at 1:54.39, and Kyan Wallace was 10th in the 1,500 with a time of 3:59.19 and sixth in the 5,000 at 15:05.12. Colton Stunkard (15:10.28) and Christian Rivera (15:15.78) were ninth and 10th in the 5,000.

Bryce Barbay was fourth in the 110 hurdles with a mark of 15.74, and Tanner Day was 10th in the 400 hurdles at 1:02.88. Eduardo Gutierrez placed sixth in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 9:50.13.

In field events, Rylan Olguin was first in the pole vault with a jump of 16 feet, ¾ inch, and Steven Gruss was third in the high jump with a height of 6 feet, 5 ½ inches. Barbay (14 feet, 11 inches) and Sebastian Garcia (14 feet, 5 ¼ inches) were fourth and fifth in the pole vault.

Johnson and Day placed ninth and 10th in the long jump with distances of 22 feet, 5 ¾ inches and 22 feet, 4 ¼ inches. Cobe Graham was fourth in the shot put with a mark of 52 feet, 3 ¾ inches, and Brian Orlando was eighth at 50 feet, 4 inches.

Daveon Thomas had the best mark in the discus with a throw of 187 feet, 4 inches ahead of teammate Luke Thielmann who was second at 167 feet, 8 inches. Orlando was third in the hammer throw with a mark of 187 feet, and Thomas was fourth at 177 feet, 10 inches.

Day also placed fifth in the javelin with a distance of 160 feet, 6 inches.
