HUNTSVILLE — Brailey Wasik hit the tying home run and
Elia Hebel smashed the game winner over the wall in left field to lead the Sam Houston softball team to a WAC series sweep with a 7-6 victory over Lamar on Saturday at the Bearkat Softball Complex.
The Bearkats (8-10 overall, 3-0) trailed the Cardinals (4-13, 0-3) 6-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh.
Sheridan Fisher drew a lead-off walk and advanced to third with one out on a single by
Kylie Hobbs.
That brought the game-tying run to the plate and Wasik laced a three-run home run just down the line in left. With two outs, Hebel hit a towering walk-off home run to complete the comeback.
Sam Houston fell behind early when Lamar scored runs in the first and second inning to go up 2-0. The Kats finally got on the board in the third on a sacrifice fly by
Brodie Quinlan, but the Cardinals added three more in fifth to increase their lead to 5-1.
Sam Houston got two runs back in the sixth on a pair of errors that brought home Hobbs and
Ellie Grill to set up the seventh-inning heroics.
Mika Vento picked up the win in the circle for the Bearkats. She struck out one batter in 2/3 of an inning of work to improve to 3-5 on the season.
Sam Houston will host Kennesaw State in a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m.
